MISSOULA, Mont. - The University of Providence started the game on an 8-0 run, the University of Montana ended the game on an 8-0 run and in between, the Lady Griz defense stifled the Argos in a 71-43 Montana win on field trip day in Missoula.

Maddy Dixon hit a jumper 90 seconds into the first quarter, then Brooklyn Harn and Reed Hazard each hit three pointers to give Providence the early lead in front of five thousand grade school students. Sammy Fatkin scored the first bucket for the Lady Griz two minutes later to get UM on the board. The Argo women led 10-4 before Montana went on a 9-0 run to take the lead for good.

Reed Hazard led Providence with 12 points in the game, which was an exhibition for the Argos. Alicia Oatis added nine points off the bench, while Dixon added eight points and five rebounds. Dixon and Kenedy Cartwright each had a team-high five boards.

Argos Head Coach Bill Himmelberg liked the way his team started, and competed, "They (Montana) are a lot deeper than us. I thought our girls competed hard. We executed some stuff. I thought we got better today and that is the most important thing."

Sammy Fatkin led the Lady Griz with 24 points, two away from a career-high, and added seven rebounds. Keely Burton-Oliver chipped in 12 points while Dani Bartsch grabbed nine rebounds.

For the game, Providence shot 15-52 (28.8%) from the field including a 2-11 effort from the three-point line. The Argos committed 18 turnovers which led to 21 UM points.

Providence next plays at the Northwest Classic Friday and Saturday against Haskell Indian Nations College and Northwest University. You can watch both games at www.upargos.com.
