GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball team will play their final game of the regular season on Thursday when they host #11 Carroll College. The game will tip-off at 7:00 p.m. in the McLaughlin Center.
The Argos (11-16, 2-12) are coming off a
tight five-point loss to #14 Montana Tech last Saturday in Butte. The team was ahead for a majority of the game, but a late-shooting barrage from the Orediggers (23-6, 12-2) prevented the Argos from the win.
"We were close," head coach
Steve Keller said. "We're still just trying to get healthy and get ready for the conference tournament next week. We had a great practice last night and we had a great practice today. We're going to go out there and compete. We've been in every single game with whoever we got. We're going to go out and play with the guys that we have healthy and see what we can do. We've been close."
The Argos will go from playing the Orediggers to the Fighting Saints (26-3, 12-2) – both teams are tied for first place
in the Frontier Conference standings. The Argos however, are feeling like they let a win slip away from them on Saturday, and are excited to come out and play against the Saints.
"They're the top team in the conference," Keller said. "They're playing at a very high level. They're scoring the basketball more than they have earlier in the year. When they do that, they're really tough to beat. They play such good defense which makes them a tough matchup. But that's why they play the game."
Prior to the tip, the team will honor the seven seniors in the program.
Lucious Brown,
JF Daho,
Dawson Fowler,
Jaxen Hashley,
Brendan Howard,
Elijah Oliver and
Rashee Stocks will be honored during the celebration.
"It's a little mixture of guys that we've had for one year and some guys that have been with us for awhile," Keller said. "We miss our seniors every year. They put in a lot of time and energy to this program. We appreciate everything they've done. Hopefully it's a great night for our seniors and we get a win."
