th in the 101 lb. weight class.
Ashley Gooman finished 5
th in the 116 lb. division and
Sadie Antoque finished 5
th at the 155 lb. weight class.
"We wrestled pretty good today for the most part," head coach
Matt Atwood said. "We were in much better shape. We still need to work on some little things like our mindset but overall I'm pleased with how the day went."
Ivy was dominant throughout the entire day, cruising through the five matches she wrestled in. She recorded a pin over Kaylie Catalano (Colorado Mesa) in the second round before tech falling Emma Cochran (Grand View) in the quarterfinals. She won both the semifinal and championship match via decision.
"Most of the top 101-lb. wrestlers were at this tournament," Atwood said. "She claimed that spot. When Ivy is attacking people and scoring points, she's done in nearly 30 seconds. She learned a lot today. She looked really good."
The coaching staff was also pleased with how the three wrestlers who placed competed today.
"Ira was lights out today," Atwood said. "She just had a couple places where she slipped up, otherwise she was solid. I think today was really good for her confidence. Ashley beat some good girls at the beginning of the tournament and found a way to place. Sadie wrestled phenomenal today. She opened up today with great positioning and was doing some really smart wrestling."
The tournament marks the last competition the team will have before the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament, which will take place on Feb. 27 in Great Falls, Mont.
"We're trying to keep positive here for this last month and do all the right things down the stretch here," Atwood said. "It was really cool to see all these teams that we haven't gotten to see all year. It was really good to get the opportunity to wrestle against competition like this. It will only help us for conference."
