GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The #19 University of Providence women's basketball team will play a pair of road games this week as the regular season winds down. The Argos (22-5, 9-3) will travel to Dillon Wednesday to play Montana Western before taking on Montana Tech in Butte on Saturday.
The team is coming off a win
against MSU-Northern last Saturday, after dropping the two previous games. The squad cleaned up their offense against the Lights, resulting in a 23-assist performance in the win.
"The biggest thing is we shared the ball and improved our offensive execution," head coach
Bill Himmelberg said. "We cleaned up a lot of that stuff. We moved the ball in the second game and our spacing is way better. I thought we made big improvements in that area."
The team is looking to continue that offensive execution on the road this week, which in the Frontier Conference means two games in extremely difficult environments.
"We treat our road games like we would a home game," Himmelberg said. "We're going to make sure we do our scout and keep our normal cadence. We have a normal cadence when we're on the road. We try to stay within that cadence that we've established during the preseason. Hopefully all that preparation that we did early in the year will pay off."
The team will first take on the Bulldogs (14-10, 4-8), who are receiving votes
in the latest NAIA National Poll. The Argos have spent working on their defensive execution this week in practice in preparation for the game.
"We're going to have to make sure that we defend a little bit and rebound," Himmelberg said. "They're good at executing, they can shoot the three, they can get to the rim extremely well. We're going to have to defend their actions. They're really good at executing. Offensively we're going to have to take care of the basketball because they're going to pressure you."
The team will then travel to Butte for a dual against the Orediggers (12-15, 3-9) on Saturday. That game will tip-off at 2:00 p.m.
"Tech is a different beast," Himmelberg said. "They have some size inside. We're going to have to be able to defend their size and handle their post down low but also take away the three-point line. They are one of the top three-point shooting teams in the country, so we can't let them got hot from the three-point line. Offensively we're going to have to share the basketball a lot. The girls can defend the post and perimeter so they're a little bit of a different matchup for us."
