KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The University of Providence softball team fell to #2 Oregon Tech in the final two games of their weekend series on Saturday. The Argos (2-30, 1-22) fell to the Owls (38-7, 22-2) 5-1 in the first game and 11-3 in the second game.
Both teams couldn't get anything going to start in the first game of the day, with the game staying scoreless for the first three innings. The Owls got on the board first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Ryen Palmer responded for the Argos, doubling to left center to bring
Sirena Rosalez home to cut the deficit to one. The Owls however, added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to solidify the 5-1 lead.
"We had our chances," head coach
Joey Egan said. "I was proud of how we came out today. We played much better than we did yesterday and improved on our mistakes. We still have areas where we need to improve but we are getting better each game."
Karlie David, Palmer and Rosalez all recorded a hit in the game. Palmer provided the lone RBI, giving Rosalez the lone Argo run in the game.
Carter Thornton got the start on the mound, recording one strikeout.
The Owls kept up the momentum in the second game, scoring three runs in the first inning and four runs in the second inning to jump out to a 7-0 lead.
Alivia Atlee help weather the storm, hitting a three-run shot in the top of the fourth inning to cut into the deficit. However the Owls scored three runs themselves in the bottom of the fifth inning to finalize the 11-3 score.
The Argos recorded six hits in total in the second game. Atlee, Palmer and
McKenzie Staats all crossed home plate for the squad.
The team will return to the field next weekend with a road trip against Warner Pacific. The first game of the four-game weekend series will begin April 22 at 2:00 p.m. MTN.
