Helena, Mont., August 30, 2022 – In a game marred by nine yellow cards and one red card, the University of Providence men's soccer team opened its season with a 2-1 loss on the road Tuesday night at Carroll College. The Saints saw five yellows and the red card while the Argos were handed four yellow cards in the tightly contested battle on the pitch.
Carroll opened the scoring in the first half with a goal at the 19:06 mark when Rory Bloy got the ball beyond Sam Fingers. The Saints followed that 18 minutes later on a goal from Phillip Camacho. Gavin Bissell scored the first Argo goal of the season late in the first half when he slipped one past Ryan Croft. Providence played three goal keeps in the match with Senior Dante Montgomery giving up Carroll's second goal. Cameron Chadd finished the game in goal for Providence making four saves.
Head Coach Will Hander, coaching his first game for Providence, said he is proud of the effort, "We played well. I am pleased with how the guys kept their heads in a heated game. We showed some good things, and I am excited to get back to work and build upon what we saw tonight."
Mika Lankhof was credited with four shots while Tomeu Nebot got off three shots. Each had two shots on goal. Providence was outshot 14-9 and will have a couple of weeks between games to work on those things Hander would like to see.
