Argos fall in Cascade Opener

Providence loses 4-1 at Rocky

Jason Walker, UP Sports Information Director

Billings, Mont. - Jesus Pulido scored in the 14th minute to give the University of Providence a 1-0 lead, but the Battlin' Bears of Rocky Mountain College scored four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 win Saturday in the Cascade Conference opener for both schools.

Pulido's goal came unassisted and was one of three shots on goal for Providence which was tied with Rocky until Igor Soares snuck one past Dante Montgomery in the 44th minute. Soares's goal came after Quique Garcia tied the match at 1-1 off an assist from Soares less than four minutes after Pulido found the back of the net. Everett Manning and Jose Reyes-Mortero scored in the second half for the Battlin' Bears.

Providence recorded six shots overall while Rocky was credited with 13, 11 of which were SOG (shots on goal). After the match, Argos Head Coach Will Hander was complimentary of his squad, "We played well for just our second match of the season. We still have some things to work on, but we are getting better each game."

The Argos return home to face The Evergreen State and Northwest University Friday and Saturday with kickoff each day set for 3:30 PM. For everything Providence athletics, visit www.upargos.com.
