Bozeman, Mont. - The Cross-Country season began Saturday for the University of Providence men and women at the MSU Open in Bozeman with the Argos competing against teams from the NAIA, NCAA Division 2 and NCAA Division 1 ranks. Both teams ran well and now have marks to build on for the rest of the season. The women were led by freshmen MeKenzie Clark and Reilly Wilson. Wilson, from Gillette, Wyo., completed the course at Bridger Creek Golf Course in 20:17.90 with Clark (Cody, Wyo.) right on her heels in 20:20.70. Emilie Crago finished in 23:07.30 with Isabella Lane going 23:23.30.
On the men's side, Kalispell's Nash Graffe was the top Argo with a time of 28:05.00, Ciaran Molloy had a time of 29:20.00, Jon Johansen finished in 33:31.60 with Christian Buhler completing the course in 40:11.60. Head Coach Tony Arntson was pleased with the performance of everyone, "Good solid start to the season. Riley and McKenzie ran strong races, and our other girls ran well. Nash and Ciaran got good early performances. It was sad that our transfers, Olivia (Nygren) and Noah (Aparicio) did not get to compete because their NAIA paperwork did not get complete, but they will join us next week and just make us better."
The Argo men and women next run in their home meet next Friday, the Providence Open. That begins at 11 AM and will be held at Anaconda Hills. For more Argo athletics news, visit www.upargos.com.
