Argos fall in home opener

Providence gives up 4 goals to Evergreen State

Jason Walker, UP Sports Information Director

Great Falls, Mont. - On a mildly breezy day in Great Falls, The Evergreen State College (Wash.) used two goals in the first half and another two in the second to spoil the University of Providence's home opener with a 4-1 victory. The Geoducks saw four different players find the back of the net Friday, with Zack Schmidt, Brandon Clough, Jax Buckley and Andreas Malunat all scoring. The Argos lone goal came from Marcus John. John's goal cut the deficit to 3-1 before Malunat scored the insurance goal late in the second half.

Both teams saw good pressure early on, but it was ESC that broke through first scoring in the 34th minute and never trailed. The Geoducks put up 14 shots to Providence's 12, but the Argos were outshot 11-3 in shots on goal.

Colin Hauser stopped all but one shot for Evergreen while the Argos played two goalies, Dante Montgomery and Sam Fingers. The Geoducks improved to 3-3 overall, 2-1 in Cascade play. Providence falls to 0-3 overall, 0-2 in league play and has been outscored 8-2 in CCC (Cascade Collegiate Conference) matches.

The Argos have a quick turnaround as they will face Northwest University (Wash.) Saturday at 3:30 PM. For live stats and to view online, visit www.upargos.com
