Argos earn 1st conference win

Providence shuts out Evergreen State 2-0

Jason Walker, UP Sports Information Director

Great Falls, Mont. - If your name is Dani and you play soccer for the University of Providence women, chances are good you scored a goal Friday afternoon at Argo Field. Danielle Chang and Daniela Waialeale each found the back of the net and the Argos picked up a 2-0 Cascade Collegiate Conference win over The Evergreen State.

Chang broke a scoreless tie in the second half on a strong drive down the pitch to fire the ball past Geoducks goalie Amity Brookshire. The Argos pressured offensively most of the match and Waialeale tallied her goal in the 86th minute. For the second consecutive match, Reilyn Davis was solid in the net although she was not pressured much as the Geoducks totaled just one shot. Providence was credited with 18 shots, 6 of which were on goal.

Head Coach Heather Blandford says the coaching staff could not have asked for more, "Today was a solid performance and our team has a lot to be proud of. Getting our first conference win, earning back-to-back shutouts, and scoring multiple goals is an important step in the growth of our program. Now our focus shifts to another quality side in Northwest University."

Northwest University (Wash.) is receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll. The Eagles scored a 1-0 win Friday at Rocky Mountain College. The Argos improved to 1-3-1 overall and sport a 1-0-1 CCC record heading into Saturday. The match against the Eagles begins at 1 pm at Argo Field and can be watched along with live stats at www.upargos.com.
