HELENA, Mont. - Davien Harris-Williams scored a career-high 35 points, Marcus Stephens added 28 and the Providence men earned a 93-88 win at Carroll College Thursday night in Frontier Conference play.
Stephens scored 19 in the first half while Harris-Williams chipped in with 11 as the Argos built an eight-point lead at halftime. The two combined to hit 5 of 7 from the three-point line in the first 20 minutes as the Argos were able to build a nine-point lead thanks to their hot shooting. Providence shot 44.4% from the field in the first half while holding the Saints to just over 37 percent.
The second half saw more of the same as Harris-Williams scored 24 points, hitting four more threes to finish with his game-high 35 points. Carroll outscored the Argos 52-49 in the final stanza, but it was Providence that moved to 3-2 in the Frontier, 9-9 overall.
Harris-Williams finished the game 10-22 from the field, including a 7 of 12 effort from beyond the arc. Stephens also had seven rebounds and four assists as the Argos snapped a three-game losing streak to the Saints. Eric Milner added 10 points while Jake Olsen had seven points and five rebounds. Providence shot 46.6% (27-58) from the field to get the win.
One big key in the game was the free throw line where the Argos finished 27 of 30, while the Saints were 22 for 26, a five-point difference. Providence overcame a 39-24 deficit in rebounding which led to being outscored 20-4 in second chance points.
Carroll went 28-64 from the field (43.8%) and was led by Braydon Koch's 20 points. Isaiah Moore scored 18 points with eight rebounds, Andrew Cook had 17 points and Brendan Temple finished with 10 points, nine rebounds.
Carroll falls to 2-3 in the Frontier, 8-8 overall and will host MSU-Northern Saturday.
Providence plays at the McLaughlin Center for the first time since Dec. 1, hosting Rocky Mountain College. The Battlin' Bears lost to Montana Western 76-60 Thursday and enters with a record of 10-7, 2-3.
