Women's Wrestling Announces 2023-2024 Recruiting Class

GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- Head women's wrestling coach Matt Atwood has announced the addition of 27 new athletes that will be joining the University of Providence's women's wrestling team. They are joining the team that finished fifth in the country last season.

"I couldn't be more excited to get the season rolling! As a whole this is without a doubt the best team I have had the pleasure to be a part of.  We have always had high level key individuals but now we have a very deep and competitive roster at all weights. I can already see the passion and drive this new class has, combined with what our returners have already built, the sky is the limit with this team!"

College Transfers
Aspen Dodge – Senior – Ocala, Florida – Westport High School / Adrian College
Dodge was a team captain in high school. She was also a state placer and won the Iron Wolf award. At Adrian College she was a two-time national qualifier and a regional champion.

Katelyn Lewis – Sophomore – Peshtigo, Wisconsin – Marinette High School /Brewton-Parker College
Lewis was a two-time State Champion and a two-time National Champion while at Marinette High School. At Brewton-Parker College she was a National Qualifier and a third-team all-conference selection.

Kacey Lee Pua – Sophomore – Wailuku, Hawaii – Baldwin High School /Midland University
In 2022 Pua placed third at the State Championships and was the MIL Champion. In 2020 she was the state runner-up and the MIL runner-up. At Midland University Pua was a 2023 National Qualifier and a KCAC Conference Champion.

Kailey Rees – Redshirt Freshman – Yadkinville, North Carolina / Freedom Orlando HS /Life University
Rees was a two-time State Champion, two-time district champion, and two-time regional champion in Florida. She was also the Super 32 runner-up and won the first ever Florida Dairy Farmers of America Miss Wrestling Award for the best pound for pound wrestler in the state of Florida.

Kassidy Sigda – Sophomore – Regina, Sask. – Miller Comprehensive Catholic High /University of Regina
Sigda was a five-sport athlete at Miller Comprehensive Catholic High including wrestling, football, soccer, flag football, and boxing.

Ty Takamori – Junior – Kihei, Hawaii – H.P. Baldwin High School / Midland University
Takamori was a four-sport athlete at H.P. Baldwin High School including wrestling, cheer, cross country, and track and field.

Incoming Freshmen
Ani Arias – Selma, California – Selma High School
Ani was a five-time All-American at Selma High school and was a 2022 State Champion at 116. Arias was also a 2023 state placer at 116 the following season.

Isabelle Asuncion – Honolulu, Hawaii – Moanalua High School
Isabelle was a two-time State Champion and won the Girls Wrestling Championship twice.

Eden Baguio – Honolulu, Hawaii – Moanalua High School
Eden was a State Champion in both wrestling at 168 and judo at 172. In 2022 she also helped her team win the Walnut Invitational in California.

Bella Bocanegra – Glendale, Arizona – Liberty High School
Bocanegra was a three-time State Champion in Arizona. She was also ranked 13th nationally and represented the USA at the Pan American Games where she brought home a gold medal. Bocanegra finished her high school career 98-11 and helped her team win two State Championships.

Kivah Caballero – Lahaina, Hawaii – Lahainaluna High School
Caballero was a 2023 State Champion and a two-time Maui Invitational Garner Ivy Champion. She was also a three-time MIL Champion and placed third and the 2023 Paani Challenge. In 2020 she placed third at the Paani Challenge and placed fifth in the state tournament.

Audrey Chavez – Bakersfield, California – Golden Valley High School
Chavez was a 2023 California state placer, first-team all-conference, a masters champion, and won the outstanding wrestling award in her time at Golden Valley High School.

Audrey Darnell – Wellsville, Kansas – Baldwin High School
Darnell was the Baldwin High School Wrestler of the year in 2021 and 2023 and she has the most wins in their history with 107. She was also a regional and league champ in 2023, finished third at state in 2021, and was a state finalist in 2023.

Kiera Davis – Corvallis, Montana – Corvallis High School
Davis placed fifth at the state championships her sophomore year, fourth her junior year, and second her senior year at Corvallis High School. She was also an academic All-State athlete.

Angelina Doral – Las Vegas, Nevada – Legacy High School
Doral was a 3x Nevada state placer and 2023 state runner-up at Legacy High School where she also played volleyball before coming to wrestle for the Argos.

Alanna Haney – Richland, Washington – Chiawanna High School
Haney was a 2x Washington state champion for Chiawanna High School and was a part of back-to-back-to-back high school state championships for her school. She also won the AA and Athletic awards.

Tassie Hatch – Tremonton, Utah – Bear River High School
Hatch was a four-time state placer, two-time state runner-up, and two-time third place finisher. She placed third at the USA wrestling western regionals and was also a three-time Fargo qualifier.
 
Ornella Kero – Boise, Idaho – Boise High School
Kero was a 2023 Idaho state champion at Boise High School where she also played, football, softball, and rugby before joining the Argos this season.

Omi – Kulukulualani-Sales – Lahaina, Hawaii – Lahainaluna High School
Omi was the 2023 State Champion, Pa'ani Champion, and MIL Champion at 107. She was also the 2022 state runner-up and MIL champion at 107. In 2020 she was the MIL runner-up and a state placer at 97.

Paige Morales – Fresno, California – Central East High School
Morales was the runner-up at the State Championships in 2023, was the 2022 California State Champion, and placed third in 2020. She was the 2021 Cadet and Junior Fargo Champion, and the 2022 Super 32 Champion and California State Champion of Champions. Morales was also the U15 World silver medalist.

Bianca Pesole – Elk Grove, California – Elk Grove High School
Pesole was the 2023 MVP and a SJS section champ in her time at Elk Grove High School. As a team she also helped the Thundering Herd go undefeated and become league champions.

Skyla Philpot-Fernandez – Kaneohe, Hawaii – Liberty High School
Skyla was the 2023 State Champion, a two-time state placer, and the MVP wrestler in her time at Liberty High School.

Frances Porteous – Bellingham, Washington – Squalicum High School
Porteous was the state runner-up in 2022-2023 and finished the season with a 44-8 record.

Alyssa Randles – Coeur d'Alene Idaho – Coeur d'Alene High School
Randles was a four-time State Champion and five-time All-American at Coeur d'Alene High School. She was also a two-time Idaho wrestler of the year and the Class of 2023 female athlete of the year.

Kayla Shota – Waipahu, Hawaii – Moanalua High School
Shota placed fifth at the State Championships in 2022 and third in 2023. She was the 2023 OIA Champion and placed second in 2022. Shota was also the 2022 and 2023 Eastern, OIA, and State Champion in Judo.

Georgia Slivar – Los Angeles, California – Eagle Rock High School
Silvar was a two-time city champion and was the first athlete from the northern league to win the city championships in their history.

Kayla Vail – Idaho Falls, Idaho – Bonneville High School
Vail was a four-time state qualifier and four-time state placer while at Bonneville High School. In 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 she was named the Post Register Female Athlete of the Year. Vail is also an eight-time Montana Open Champion, a Rollie Lane Champion, and a member of the Idaho wrestling hall of Fame.
 
This is the third recruiting class for head coach Matt Atwood after the Argos finished 5th in the country at the NAIA National Championships last season with 6 All-Americans. They finished 5th in the country at NWCA National Duals and ended with a 7-2 dual record. The Argonauts open their season Oct. 21, and their first home match of the season is on Dec. 1 for the Battle of the Rockies.
