Men's Soccer Ties The College of Idaho

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's soccer team tied The College of Idaho 1-1 Friday afternoon.

The Yotes (7-1-2) struck first in the 8th minute when a corner kick was headed into the box by Emil Powles who found Grant Embree to give The College of Idaho the lead.

Argos (6-4-1) would respond in the 23rd minute when freshman Hugo Gil got around his defender and found senior Tomeu Nebot Schmalfeld for his third goal of the year. The Yotes outshot the Argos 4-3 in the first half.

UP had an opportunity midway through the second half when freshman Geovanni Lugo's cross found freshman Jose Vasquez, but his shot was saved by the diving goalkeeper.

Despite a late attack by the Yotes the Argos defense held strong as the match ended in a 1-1 tie.

Head Coach Will Hander stated, "I'm proud of our guys today. We didn't execute our game plan as we had trained but we did a good job in getting a point and keeping up with one of the top teams in the conference. We will regroup and get ready for tomorrow's match."

The Argos return to action Saturday, Oct. 7 when they host Eastern Oregon University. The first touch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Argo Field.
