CHANDLER, Ariz. – The University of Providence men's basketball program fell 80-70 to Marian University Saturday afternoon.

The Knights (9-2) scored the first six points of the contest, but the Argos (6-4) were able to halt the run when senior
Davien Harris-Williams found junior
Drayton Caoile for a three pointer.

Marian would extend the lead to seven but a layup by senior
Jake Olsen and a jumper by senior
Sam Vining cut the lead to three.
Over the next five minutes the Knights went on a 15-5 run to increase their lead to 13.
Both sides would trade baskets until a pair of threes and an and one layup by junior
Sam Norum tied the game at 33 with four minutes remaining in the half.
The Knights would answer immediately with a 6-0 run and would maintain that edge into the break leading 41-36.
Marian opened the second half scoring with a fadeaway jumper on the baseline, but
Sam Vining responded with a pull up jumper to keep the game within six. Â
The Knights would increase their lead to nine, but a layup by Olsen and threes by junior
Kenny Curtis and Harris-Williams cut the lead to one.
The game would go back and forth with each team trading buckets until a three by Marian University extended their lead back out to five.
Following free throws from the Knights, a three by Vining and a layup by senior
Jaylin Reed cut the lead back down to one with five minutes remaining.
Despite a late three by Vining, the Knights hit their free throws down the stretch as UP fell to Marian University 80-70.
The Argos will be back in action Dec. 18 for their second game at the Cactus Classic. Tip off versus #10 Arizona Christian is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (MST) at the Coyote Center. Â
