GREAT FALLS, Mont. - The University of Providence split a double header Thursday with Corban University (Ore.) in Cascade Conference play in Great Falls.

The Argos scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to come away with a 4-3 game one victory before falling 9-5 in the second game. The Warriors took a two-run lead in the second inning of game one thanks to a Sarah Bradshaw solo home run followed by a run-scoring triple from Morgan Gleeson.

Providence got on the board in the bottom of the inning when Azia Umphrey scored on a Warrior error off the bat of Gracie Fleming. Corban answered with its third run of the game on a Sage Vanterpool single that made it 3-1. In the bottom of the fourth, a Carter Thornton sacrifice fly brought home Macy Mangold bringing the score to 3-2. The bottom of the sixth saw the Argos take the lead when Deven Creech singled to center to bring home Thornton and Umphrey. Creech got the win in relief by tossing four innings of one-hit ball allowing a run while striking out three.

Providence was held to three hits, one each by Taylor Mathews, Creech, and Kolbi Wood, but took advantage of four Corban errors to get the win.

In game two, Providence led 4-1 after one inning thanks to an Umphrey double that scored Mangold. That was followed by a bases-loaded walk to Fleming that brought Creech home and a two-run error that scored Ryen Palmer and Umphrey. Mathews added a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth that made the score 5-2 Argos.

Corban would score six runs in the top of the seventh, thanks in large part to four Argo errors on one play. Isabell Carattini reached first on an error by UP third baseman Tiffany Fuentes. Carattini advanced to second after an error by Mangold and moved to third on a Palmer error that scored Bradshaw. Carattini would score on the fourth error on the play when Fleming misplayed the ball. Madison Wyllie added a double that scored two runs and the inning was capped off by Vanesa Hulett-Quinones reached on a Carter Thornton error that scored two more runs.

Thornton took the loss (4-12) after allowing all nine runs, just four of which were earned. She gave up just five hits and struck out seven. Hulett-Quinones got the win after pitching 6.1 innings in relief, giving up a run on six hits. Mathews and Umphrey each collected two of the Argos eight hits in the game. The teams combined for 13 hits and 13 errors, nine by Providence.

The same two teams will wrap up regular season play Friday at the Multi Sports Complex with game times set for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. MDT. Live streaming will be available at www.upargos.com.
