Lilse, Ill. – Assistant track and field and cross-country coach Alan Cress won his fifth National Championship in the throw's pentathlon. This victory vaulted Cress to the #4 world ranking and the #1 American in the world.

The USA National Master's Throws Championship took place on Aug. 5 in Lilse, Illinois where coach cress threw the hammer, shot put, discus, javelin, and the weight throw. In his 11^th year throwing in master's competitions his new rank of #4 in the world is the highest he has ever reached since his #5 world ranking in 2019. Coach Cress, when asked about the competition stated, "I really enjoy competing in the throws pentathlon, as these are the five events that I coach at the collegiate level for the University of Providence. I always strive to be good at all five events in order to score the maximum number of points that I can."

In the 60-64 age group coach Cress was top five in the shot put, discus, hammer, and weight throw for the North, Central American and Caribbean Master's Athletics and the United States. His javelin performance of 38.43 meters ranked 17^th and was the key to putting him over the hump for his career best #4 world ranking. Cress on the Javelin event stated, "The javelin throw was the only event that I won outright at the National Championships, giving me enough points for the win, after finishing second to different people in the other four throws. Winning my fifth National Championship and achieving my highest World Ranking made for a fantastic competition."
