DILLON, Mont. – The University of Providence volleyball program defeated Carroll College 3-1 and lost to Montana Western 3-1 Friday at the Frontier Conference Preview.

In the first set against Carroll College (5-9) the Argos (8-6) jumped out to an early 8-2 lead behind two kills by junior Nina Janjic. The Fighting Saints would respond scoring six of the next seven points to bring the match within one. The rest of the set was back and forth until UP scored six of eight points to extend their lead to five. Janjic's sixth kill of the set and a block by Janjic and redshirt freshman Cabry Taylor would put away Carroll in the first 25-20.

In the second set UP got out to a 4-3 lead but seven straight points by Carroll gave the Fighting Saints a 10-4 advantage. Carroll would not let up taking the second set 25-15.

The third set was back and forth throughout until a pair of kills by Janjic gave the Argos a 17-15 lead. UP would continue to roll with back-to-back aces by sophomore Ruby Morse before a kill by Janjic secured the third set 25-18. Janjic led the way with another six kills in the third set.

The fourth set saw three ties before the Argos scored eight of 11 points behind two kills by junior Mady Hoerner to take a 16-9 lead. Following a Carroll timeout, the Fighting Saints would cut into the lead by scoring five of seven, but UP would respond scoring six of the last seven points to take the set 25-17 and the match 3-1.

Janjic led the way for the Argos versus the Fighting Saints with 16 kills. Junior Taylor Christensen added 19 digs which moves her into third all-time in career digs for the University of Providence.

In the second match of the day neither team could gain a lead of more than three in the opening set until Montana Western (11-1) scored three straight to take a 19-14 lead. The Argos would rally late behind a block by Janjic and an ace by Christensen, but the Bulldogs would pull away to take the first set 25-22.

In the second set the Bulldogs jumped out to a 7-3 lead but five straight points behind kills from sophomore Ryann Eddins and junior Mady Hoerner gave the Argos an 8-7 lead. The match would see seven more ties until a kill by Eddins and a block by Hoerner and Taylor gave UP a late 21-18 lead. Montana Western would rally to tie it at 23, but senior Zoe Naugle's fifth kill of the set would win the second for the Argos 25-23.
