DILLON, Mont. – The University of Providence volleyball program fell 3-0 to Montana State University Northern Saturday morning at the Frontier Conference Preview.
The first set was back and forth until MSU Northern (8-6) scored six of seven points to take a 15-9 lead. The Northern Lights would not let up taking the first set 25-17.
The second set saw four ties before kills by senior
Kendra Pope and junior
Nina Janjic gave the Argos (8-7) an 8-5 lead. Following a MSU Northern timeout, UP scored four in a row behind a kill by sophomore
Ryann Eddins and a pair of aces from sophomore
Ruby Morse to extend their lead to seven. The Northern Lights would answer by scoring eight of 10 points to bring the set within one. Despite a late rally by the Argos, MSU Northern would continue to roll scoring six of the final seven points to take the set 25-21.
In the third set the Argos jumped out to an 8-4 lead off kills by redshirt freshman
Cabry Taylor, junior
Allyah Tokelau, and Janjic. The Northern Lights would respond scoring five straight to retake the lead 13-12. Both sides would trade runs until three straight points by MSU Northern secured the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
The Argos will be back in action Sept. 22 when they host #11 Montana Tech for their Frontier Conference opener. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in the McLaughlin Center.
