SALEM, Ore. – A second half comeback by the University of Providence men's soccer team pushed the Argos past the Warriors Friday afternoon.
The Warriors (1-4-3) struck first in the sixth minute when Nate Sherwood beat the goalkeeper to give Corban University a 1-0 lead.
The Argos (5-4) had a chance midway through the first half but freshman
Jose Vasquez's shot was saved by the goalkeeper.
UP was able to pressure late in the first half with shots by senior
Tomeu Nebot Schmalfeld and freshman
Geovanni Lugo but were unable to find the equalizer. The Argos were outshot 11-7 in the first half.
The Argos would break through 35 seconds into the second half when sophomore
Ibrahima Barry intercepted a pass and took it all the way to beat the keeper and tie the match at one.
UP would take the lead in the 57
th minute when Barry's shot was blocked by the goalkeeper, but Schmalfeld chased down the loose ball and headed it into the back of the net to give the Argos a 2-1 lead.
Despite the Argos being down a man for the final 10 minutes, UP was able to hold off the Warriors attack winning the match 2-1.

Will Hander stated, "Overall we played extremely well. We still had our travel legs in the first half which influenced the way we came out, but in the second half we made adjustments and put the pressure on to score some late goals and get the three points."
The Argos return to action Saturday, Sept. 30, when they visit Bushnell University. The first touch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. (MDT) in Eugene, Ore. Â
