Argos Fall to Carroll College

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball program fell 67-65 to Carroll College Saturday night.  

The Fighting Saints (7-7) scored the first points of the game when James Lang made a pair of free throws.

The Argos (7-7) would respond with a layup by senior Jake Olsen, but a 5-0 run from Carroll gave the Fighting Saints an 8-2 lead.  

After empty trips by both teams, senior Freddy Brown III scored five straight points to cut the lead to one midway through the first half.

Carroll would slowly extend their lead to eight over the next 10 minutes, but a three pointer by senior Sam Vining made it a five-point game going into the break.

Senior Davien Harris-Williams opened the second half with a layup to cut the lead to three, but a layup by Zane Foster extended Carroll's advantage back out to five.

Following a layup by senior Jevon Burton, a 10-0 run by the Fighting Saints gave Carroll a 13-point lead.

The Argos would cut the lead in half with a three-pointer by senior Jaylin Reed and a jumper by Harris-Williams, but a pair of layups from Carroll kept the Fighting Saints ahead by 10.

Over the next four minutes the Argos would storm back going on a 12-2 run to tie the game at 63 with three minutes remaining.

Free throws from Olsen would give the Argos a two-point lead, but a pair of baskets by Carroll gave the Fighting Saints a two-point edge with 50 seconds left.

Despite a pair of chances at the end of the game the Argos could not find the go-ahead basket as they fell to Carroll College 67-65.

The Argos will be back in action Jan. 11 when they travel to Billings, Mont. Tip-off versus #15 Rocky Mountain College is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Fortin Education Center.
