Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Argos Fall to Eastern Oregon

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The University of Providence men's soccer program fell to Eastern Oregon 3-2 Friday night.

The Mountaineers (5-2-2) jumped in front when a header was kicked out of the air and off the post and in to make it 1-0.

A few minutes later Eastern Oregon extended their lead to two when a bouncing ball made its way through the Argos (3-7) defense and into the back of the net.

UP would get a shot from sophomore Ryan Baldwin late in the half, but it was blocked away by the Mountaineers defenders as the Argos went into the break trailing 2-0.

The Argos would open the scoring in the second half when a free kick from senior Tomeu Nebot Schmalfeld found freshman Ole Heinsohn whose header got past the goalkeeper to cut the lead in half.

Eastern Oregon scored a couple minutes later to re-extend their lead to two, but in the 59th minute another free kick from Schmalfed went into the box and senior Bryan Olivera's header out of the air made it to the back of the net to bring the game within one.

Despite a few late chances from Olivera and Schmalfeld, the Argos were unable to find the equalizer as UP fell to EOU 3-2.

The Argos will be back in action tomorrow, Oct. 12, when they travel to Caldwell, Idaho. The first touch is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. (MST) versus #11 The College of Idaho.
