Argos Sweep MSU-Northern

GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- The University of Providence volleyball program defeated MSU-Northern for their third straight sweep Thursday night.

In the first set against the Skylights (10-10), MSU-Northern jumped out to a 5-3 lead but the Argos (18-4) would slowly cut into the advantage tying the set at 10. Following five-straight from the Skylights, UP answered with a 7-1 run behind kills from senior Nina Janjic and Sadie Giles to take a 22-19 lead. UP would maintain that edge the rest of the way taking the first 25-21.

The second set saw the Argos get out to an early 10-5 lead behind kills from Janjic and Giles, but a late run from the Skylights brought the set within two. UP would respond with three straight off kills from juniors Franny Martins, Ryann Eddins, and senior Ava Saiers to secure the second set 25-21.

In the third set the Argos grabbed the momentum early, scoring six of the first eight points, and they would not slow down getting out to a 16-8 lead behind back-to-back aces from Saiers. UP cruised the rest of the way taking the third set 25-18 and the match 3-0.

Janjic led the way with 16 kills and Martins added 11 kills while hitting .609 and .647, respectively. Junior Bella Thompson added to her NAIA leading assists per set with 40 total assists and Saiers added 17 digs.

The Argos are back in action Saturday, Oct. 19 when they travel to Dillon, Mont. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. against #17 Montana Western.
