Argos Fall to #17 Montana Western In Five Sets

DILLON, Mont. -- The University of Providence volleyball program fell to #17 Montana Western 3-2 Saturday afternoon.

In the first set against Bulldogs (16-6), both sides went back and forth with neither team getting a lead by more than two until three straight from Montana Western but UMW ahead 17-13. UP would slowly cut into the lead with a pair of kills from junior Ryann Eddins and a block from sophomore Cabry Taylor to tie the match at 23. Both teams would trade points the rest of the way until a block from senior Nina Janjic and junior Sadie Giles followed by Janjic's sixth kill of the set secured the first for UP 27-25.

The second set saw Montana Western score the first three points, and despite the Argos (18-5) bringing the set within one, the Bulldogs quickly re-extended their lead to four and would maintain that edge the rest of the way taking the second set 25-18.

In the third set both teams traded points early until three straight from UP put the Argos ahead 9-6. The Bulldogs would answer tying the set at 14 but kills from sophomore Martyna Fiedler and Taylor secured the third set for UP 25-22.

The fourth set was back and forth until a 5-1 run from the Bulldogs gave UWM a 12-9 lead. UP would bring the set within two, but Montana Western scored the final three points of the set to take the fourth 25-20.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-1 lead to begin the fifth set, and despite the Argos bringing the set within two late, UWM scored three of the final four points to take the fifth set 15-11 and the match 3-2.

The Argos are back in action Thursday, Oct. 24 when they travel to Billings, Mont. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. versus Rocky Mountain College.
