BILLINGS, Mont. -- The University of Providence volleyball program swept Rocky Mountain College 25-19, 25-16, 25-21 Thursday night.
In the first set against the Battlin' Bears (12-14), Rocky Mountain College scored the first three points but the Argos (19-5) slowly cut into the lead tying it at six. UP would score five of the next six points behind kills from senior
Nina Janjic and sophomore
Martyna Fiedler to put the Argos ahead 11-7. The Argos did not let it get within four the rest of the way as UP took the first set 25-19.
In set two the Argos jumped out to an early 6-2 lead following kills from junior
Ryann Eddins and sophomore
Cabry Taylor, and despite the Battlin' Bears cutting the lead to one, the Argos slowly extended their lead the rest of the way taking the second set 25-16.
The third set was back and forth with neither team gaining an edge by more than two until three straight from the Argos put UP ahead 15-11. Rocky Mountain College would cut the lead to two, but kills from Taylor and sophomore
Ella Cochran secured the set for UP 25-21 and the match 3-0.
Eddins and Taylor led the way with 12 kills each and hit .579 and .345, respectively. Junior
Bella Thompson had 45 assists and junior
Sadie Giles added 20 digs from the middle blocker position.
The Argos are back in action Saturday, Oct. 26 when they travel to Butte, Mont. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. versus #19 Montana Tech.
