BUTTE, Mont. -- The University of Providence volleyball program fell to #19 Montana Tech 3-1 Saturday night.
In the first set against the Orediggers (16-8) both sides went back and forth until eight straight from the Argos (19-6) behind kills from sophomore
Ryann Eddins and
Franny Martins put UP ahead 14-6. Montana Tech would cut the lead to five, but a kill from senior
Nina Janjic secured the first set for UP 25-18.
Montana Tech jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in the second and would slowly extend their lead the rest of the set as the Orediggers took the second 25-18.
In the third set neither team could take a lead by more than two until four straight from the Argos behind an ace by senior
Ava Saiers and a kill from sophomore
Cabry Taylor gave UP a 12-7 edge. The Orediggers would slowly cut into the lead tying the set at 19 and would continue their momentum as Montana Tech took the third set 25-22.
The fourth set saw Montana Tech score four of the first five points, but three straight from UP behind blocks from Taylor and Martins tied the set at four. The Orediggers would quickly get out to a five-point advantage and would maintain that edge the rest of the way as Montana Tech took the fourth set 25-22 and the match 3-1. Â
The Argos are back in action Wednesday, Oct. 30 when they host #17 Montana Western. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Great Falls, Mont. Â
