GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- The University of Providence volleyball program swept #15 Montana Western Wednesday night.
In the first set against the Bulldogs (18-7) both teams went back and forth with neither side gaining a lead by more than two until a 5-0 run from the Argos (20-6) behind a pair of kills from junior
Ryann Eddins put UP ahead 22-17. The Argos would maintain that edge the rest of the way with a kill from junior
Bella Thompson securing the set for UP 25-19.
The Argos jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the second set, but the Bulldogs would slowly cut into the Argo advantage tying the set at 11. Each team would trade runs until five straight from UP behind kills from junior
Bella Green and sophomore
Martyna Fiedler put UP in front 23-19. Following a kill from Montana Western, the Argos got kills from Green and Eddins to put away the Bulldogs in the second set 25-22.
Montana Western grabbed the momentum early in the third set getting out to a 5-2 lead but five straight from the Argos put UP ahead 7-5. Montana Western quickly grabbed the lead back scoring seven of the next nine to gain a three-point edge. The Bulldogs maintained that edge until a 6-0 run from the Argos behind a back-to-back blocks from junior
Franny Martins and Green put UP ahead 24-21. Following a point from the Bulldogs, a kill from
Ryann Eddins secured the third set for UP 25-22 and the match 3-0.
Eddins led the way with 13 kills and Green added 10 while hitting .235 and .200, respectively. Thompson tallied 29 assists and 13 digs while senior
Ava Saiers led the team with 22 digs.
The Argos are back in action Friday, Nov. 1 when they travel to Helena, Mont. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. versus Carroll College. Â Â
