Argos Cruise Past Fighting Saints

HELENA, Mont. -- The University of Providence volleyball program defeated Carroll College 3-1 Friday night.

In the first set against the Fighting Saints (16-11), both teams traded points early until the Argos (21-6) went on a 7-2 run behind a kill from sophomore Cabry Taylor and an ace by freshman Isabelle Cahall put UP ahead 10-5. Carroll College went on a couple of short runs by UP was able to hold of the late points with a kill from junior Ryann Eddins securing the first set for the Argos 25-23.

The Argos scroed four of the first five points of the second set courtesy of kill from Eddins and junior Franny Martins, but three-straight from the Fighting Saints tied the set at four. Carroll would continue their momentum with a 6-0 run, but the Argos would slowly cut into the lead, tying the set at 17. Both sides would go back-and-forth but UP scored four of the last five off kills from sophomore Martyna Fiedler, junior Bella Green and Eddins to secure the second set 25-22.

Neither side could grab a lead early in the third set until a 7-2 run from the Fighting Saints put Carroll ahead 18-13. The Argos would respond with four straight off kills from senior Nina Janjic, but UP was unable to close the gap as Carroll took the third set 25-21.

In the fourth set nobody could take a lead by more than two until five straight from the Argos put UP ahead 16-12. Following a point from the Fighting Saints, the Argos scored seven of the last eight points of the set to secure the fourth set 25-14 and the match 3-1.

Eddins led the way for UP with 16 kills and junior Sadie Giles added 13 while hitting .294 and .306, respectively. Junior Bella Thompson had 54 assists, and 12 digs and senior Ava Saiers led the team with 32 digs.
