CORVALLIS, Ore. – After a 4-0 weekend including a first-place finish at the Battle of the Rockies, #4 sophomore
Paige Morales has been named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Women's Wrestler of the Week.
Morales is from Fresno, Calif. and defeated the #3, #9, and #11 ranked wrestlers on her way to a first-place finish on Saturday. Morales won by TF in her first three matches and then defeated #3 Emma Baertlein of SOU for the third time in her career in the championship match.
This is Morales' second career CCC Wrestler of the Week award after taking home the award last December following her Battle of the Rockies championship in 2023. Morales joins
Erin Hikiji,
Ashley Gooman,
Ira Navarro,
Ivy Navarro,
Emily Lorring,
Tatum Sparks, and
Yurie Yoneoka as the only Argos to ever earn this award.
Head coach
Matt Atwood on Morales' performance stated, "Extremely proud of Paige! First tournament of the year and she had three of the top girls in the country to battle right away. She had some struggles last season, but she worked her tail off this summer, and it has definitely showed. She is a brighter, more motivated version of herself this year and I can't wait to watch her continue to progress throughout the season."
The Argos are back in action Sunday, Nov. 17 when they host RV Dickinson State. The dual is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. in the McLaughlin Center.
