Argos Fall to Mid-American Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The University of Providence women's basketball program fell to Mid-American Christian 69-65 Saturday afternoon.

The Evangels (1-0) scored the first basket of the game but a three from sophomore Taliah Lee on the other end put the Argos (0-2) in front 3-2.

Mid-American Christian went on a 9-2 run to take an 11-5 lead, and following a free throw from sophomore Keanna Salave'a the Evangels took control extending their lead to 12, but an and one layup from Salave'a to end the quarter made it 20-11 after the first.

The Evangels got on the board to begin the second quarter, but the Argos would respond scoring 12 of the next 13 points behind a pair of threes from Lee to tie the game at 23 midways through the second.

The Argos slowly added to their lead the rest of the quarter with a pair of threes from sophomore Monique Carter as UP went into halftime leading 34-27. Carter and Lee led the way with 11 points apiece in the first half.

The Evangels came out on fire in the third quarter quickly tying the game at 36, and Mid-American Christian would not slow down outscoring UP 30-14 in the third as UP trailed 57-48 heading into the fourth.

The Argos were able to slowly chip into the Evangels' lead the first five minutes of the fourth following a jumper from Carter and a three from Lee to bring the game within two.

Both sides would trade baskets over the next three minutes until an 8-0 run from the Evangels put Mid-American Christian ahead by seven with 20 seconds to play. Despite a late layup from Salave'a, the Argos were unable to complete the comeback falling to Mid-American Christian 69-65.

The Argos will be back in action Friday, Nov. 8, when they host the University of Jamestown. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. (MST) in Great Falls, Mont.
