GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's basketball program defeated the University of Jamestown 65-56 Friday night.
The Jimmies (2-1) scored the first four points of the game but a pair of layups on the other end from sophomores
Keanna Salave'a,
Eliannah Ramirez, and junior
Ainsley Thurber put the Argos (1-2) ahead 6-4 midways through the first quarter.
Both sides would trade baskets the rest of the quarter but a late three from the Jimmies put Jamestown ahead 12-9 heading into the second.
A layup from Salave'a opened the second for UP, and after a three from Jamestown, senior
Ashlee Maldonado went on an 8-2 run by herself to put the Argos ahead 19-17 four minutes into the second quarter.
The Argos and Jimmies went back-and-forth the rest of the quarter, but a pair of layups from Salave'a put UP ahead 30-26 at halftime. Maldonado, Ramirez, and Salave'a all had eight points in the first half.
Jamestown started the second half on a 5-0 run but a pair of layups from Salave'a and a three from Maldonado put UP ahead 38-33.
The Jimmies would respond with a 5-0 run to tie the game at 38, but jumpers from Thurber and Maldonado followed by a layup from Salave'a gave the Argos six-point edge heading into the fourth.
The Argos pushed out their lead to 13 to open the fourth following a three from Thurber and an and one from Salave'a, and despite late pressure from the Jimmies, the Argos defeated Jamestown University 65-56. Maldonado and Salave'a led the way with 18 points apiece and Ramirez and Thurber added 12 and 11, respectively.Â
The Argos will be back in action tomorrow, Nov. 9 for a matchup with the Master's University. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. in Great Falls, Mont.
