GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's basketball program defeated Bushnell University 62-48 Tuesday afternoon.
The Argos (6-2) scored the first six points of the game behind threes from sophomores Monique Carter and Taliah Lee, and following a basket from the Beacons (1-4) layups from Lee and sophomore Keanna Salave'a put UP ahead 12-3.
A couple baskets from the Beacons cut into the Argo lead, but UP finished the quarter with layups from sophomore Eliannah Ramirez and senior Ashlee Maldonado to put UP in front 18-8 after the first.
The Argos opened the second quarter with free throws from Maldonado, but the Beacons slowly cut the lead down to four before a three pointer from senior Kolby Pimperton kept the Argos ahead 30-23 heading into halftime.
The Beacons quickly made it a one-point game to start the third quarter, but UP answered with a 13-0 run behind seven points from Salave'a to put UP ahead 47-35.
Bushnell added a pair of free throws and a jumper in the last fifteen seconds of the third as UP went into the break leading 47-39.
The Argos opened the fourth quarter with a 7-0 run, and despite late pressure from the Beacons, UP cruised to a 62-48 victory over Bushnell.
Maldonado led the way with 20 points while Salave'a and Lee added 15 and 12, respectively.
The Argos will be back in action Friday, Nov. 29, when they travel to Helena Mont. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. versus The College of Idaho.
