GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- The University of Providence volleyball program defeated #19 Montana Tech to win the Frontier Conference regular season title Saturday afternoon.
In the first set against the Orediggers (19-9) the Argos (23-6) jumped out to an early 8-3 lead behind kills from juniors
Bella Thompson and
Sadie Giles. Montana Tech would respond with a 6-0 run to take a one-point lead but UP scored the last six points of the set behind a pair of kills from Giles and senior
Nina Janjic to secure the first set 25-18.
The second set was back-and-forth with neither side grabbing a lead by more than three until a 6-1 run from UP off kills from sophomore
Cabry Taylor and Giles gave UP an 18-11 advantage. The Argos would maintain that edge the rest of the way taking the second 25-16.
Montana Tech got out to an early 8-3 lead in the third set but the Argos quickly answered scoring six of the next seven points off three kills from Janjic to put UP in front by one. Both teams would trade points the rest of the set but UP scored the final two points of the set behind a kill from Janjic to secure the third set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
Nina Janjic led the way with 17 kills while hitting .467, Thompson tallied 31 assists and 16 digs and senior
Ava Saiers recorded 15 digs. This is the first regular season conference title that the Argos have won since the 2021-2022 season.
The Argos are back in action Friday, Nov. 15 for the Frontier Conference Tournament Semifinals in Havre, Mont. Â Â Â
