Four Argos Place First at Doane Open

CRETE, Neb. – The University of Providence women's wrestling program competed at the Connor Opheim Open throughout the day Saturday.

Four Argos took first place at the Doane Open in junior Erin Hikiji, senior Waipuilani Estrella-Beauchamp, and sophomores Paige Morales and Alyssa Randles.

#1 Hikiji went 5-0 on Saturday while not giving up a point throughout the entire day. Hikiji won her first four matches 10-0 and wrapped up her day pinning #8 Karina Vang in 59 seconds for the championship. With her outstanding performance Hikiji was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. 

#2 Estrella-Beauchamp made quick work of her six opponents on Saturday pinning her way to the championship match defeating #14 Esperanza Almazan in 16 seconds, #9 Samantha Barrgan in 44 seconds, and pinned #4 Kendall Bostelman in 1:05 in the championship.

#2 Morales went 5-0 as well on Saturday while outscoring her opponents 54-3 on the day. Morales defeated #17 Genna Gerhardt 10-0 in the semifinals and then defeated #10 Tristan Nitta 14-3 in the championship.

#6 Randles also placed first on Saturday going 5-0 at 124. Randles outscored her opponents 52-1 on Saturday and defeated #13 Peyton Hand of Ottawa Univ. 10-0 in the championship.

The Argos also had four other wrestlers pick up ranked victories in freshman Isa Bocanegra defeating #12 Lillian Zapata, freshman Kayla Shota defeating #16 Aynsley Fink, senior Paige Respicio beating #13 Livia Swift, and senior Kaianne Sabagala defeating #19 Andrea Frisque.

The Argos will be back in action Dec. 15 when they travel to Naperville Ill. for the North Central Invitational. Wrestlers will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will compete throughout the day.
