BILLINGS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball program defeated Rocky Mountain College 89-86 Saturday afternoon.
The Argos (12-12) scored the first points of the game when senior Davien Harris-Williams hit a pull-up three-pointer.
The Battlin' Bears (11-13) kept the game within one with a layup, but senior Jaylin Reed would hit a layup and the Argos would make it 8-2 after Harris-Williams' second three of the half.
RMC would go on a 9-1 run until a layup from Harris-Williams put the Argos ahead 12-11.
Each side would go back and forth with neither team gaining a lead by more than three the rest of the first half and back-to-back layups from RMC in the last 15 seconds gave the Battlin' Bears a 44-43 lead going into the break.
Rocky Mountain College would start the second half on a 9-0 run but the Argos would respond with a 9-0 run of their own behind layups from Reed and a three from senior Jevon Burton to keep it a one-point game.
The Argos would make it 15 straight after a pair of threes from Harris-Williams gave the Argos a 58-53 lead.
The Battlin' Bears would quickly tie the game at 58, and there would be four ties over the next four minutes until a layup from Reed put the Argos in front 71-70.
RMC would add a layup but an 8-0 run behind threes from Harris-Williams and Reed increased the Argo lead to eight with just under four minutes remaining.
Following free throws from both sides RMC would go on a 4-0 run to cut the lead to four with 45 seconds left, but the Argos would make their free throws down the stretch as UP came away with the 89-86 victory.
Harris-Williams led the way with 28 points, Reed added 21 points, and Burton had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Argos will be back in action Feb. 15 when they travel to Helena, Mont. Tip-off versus Carroll College is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the PE Center. Â Â Â
