GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball program fell to Montana Tech 86-68 Saturday night.
The Orediggers (24-4) would score the first points of the game off a pair of free throws and following an and one from senior Jaylin Reed, an 11-0 run put Montana Tech ahead 15-3.
Senior Davien Harris-Williams would make a jumper to cut the lead to 10, but a pair of three-point plays from the Orediggers increased the Montana Tech lead to 15.
The Argos (14-14) would continue to answer with a 5-0 run behind a layup from senior Eric Milner and a three from senior Caleb Currington to keep the game within 12.
Montana Tech would slowly increase their lead the rest of the half as the Orediggers took a 44-25 lead into the break.
Sam Vining would hit a three to open the second half, and following a basket rom the Orediggers, a four-point play from Vining shortened Montana Tech's lead to 15.
The Orediggers would extend the lead back out to 21, but a three from senior Caleb Currington kept the game within 18.
Free throws from senior Jaylin Reed made it 58-42, and following a basket from the Orediggers, a jumper from senior Jevon Burton and free throws from senior Davien Harris-Williams and Milner made it a 12-point game midways through the second half.
The Orediggers would grow their lead back out to 20 and despite a late run from the Argos, UP fell to #10 Montana Tech 86-68.
The Argos will be back in action Feb. 29 for the quarterfinals of the Frontier Conference Tournament. All games will be played at the Four Seasons Arena in Great Falls, Mont. Â
