Box Score GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's basketball program defeated Montana Tech 57-50 Thursday night.
The Argos (16-7) scored the first basket of the game when junior Kolby Pimperton hit a jumper on the wing.
UP would make it 5-0 after a three from graduate transfer Ashlee Maldonado but back-to-back layups from the Orediggers (11-12) made it a one-point game.
Each side would go back and forth until an 8-0 run from Montana Tech gave the Orediggers a 15-11 lead after the first quarter.
The Argos would tie the game at 15 after layups from freshman Keanna Salave'a and senior Maddy Dixon, but six straight from the Orediggers gave Montana Tech a 21-15 lead.
Dixon would go on a 4-0 run by herself to tie the game at 25, but a layup with 10 seconds left in the half gave the Orediggers a 27-25 lead going into the break.
The Argos would tie the game at 27 after a layup from Dixon but a layup from the Orediggers quickly increased the Montana Tech lead back out to two.
Over the next four minutes the Orediggers would extend their lead out to six but a layup from freshman Taliah Lee and a three from freshman Eliannah Ramirez cut the lead to one.
The Argos would take the lead following a pair of free throws from sophomore Camryn Cartwright, but the Orediggers would hit a layup on the other end to take a 41-40 lead into the fourth quarter.
 Pimperton would open the fourth with a three-pointer for her 10th point of the game and a layup from Cartwright a few possessions later retook the lead for the Argos 45-41.
Each side would add a basket but a three-pointer from Maldonado increased the Argo lead to eight midway through the fourth.
A fastbreak layup from Ramirez pushed the Argo lead out to 10 and despite a late three from the Orediggers, UP came away with the 57-50 victory.
Maldonado led the way for the Argos with 12 points and Dixon and Pimperton also added 11 and 10, respectively.
The Argos will be back in action Feb. 10 when travel to Billings, Mont. Tip-off versus Rocky Mountain College is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Fortin Education Center.Â
