Argos Start Season with Six Straight Wins

GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- The University of Providence volleyball program won their fifth and sixth games in a row defeating Evergreen State 3-0 and Ottawa University Arizona 3-1.

In the first set versus the Geoducks (0-1) the Argos (5-0) jumped out to an early 6-2 lead behind kills by junior Ryann Eddins and sophomore Cabry Taylor. UP would continue their momentum going on a 6-1 run and would not look back taking the first set 25-12.

The second set was back-and-forth until four straight for UP behind a pair of kills from senior Nina Janjic put the Argos ahead 11-7. A late 4-0 run from the Geoducks brought the match within one, but a kill from Taylor slammed the door and won the second set for UP 25-23.

UP got out to a 5-2 lead in the third set, and following a run from the Geoducks, back-to-back aces from senior Ava Saiers put the Argos ahead 15-10. UP would maintain that edge the rest of the way taking the third set 25-19 and the match 3-0. Janjic led the way with 14 kills for UP and junior Bella Thompson added 39 assists.

In the second match of the day the Argos (6-0) got out to an early 5-2 lead but a 7-1 run from the Spirit (1-1) put OUAZ ahead 12-10. UP would fight back to take a 23-20 lead, but five straight from the Spirit gave OUAZ the opening set 25-23.

In set two the Argos put together six straight points behind kills from freshman Martyna Fiedler and Eddins to put UP ahead 8-4. Ottawa would claw back to retake the lead 14-13, but another pair of kills from Fiedler and Eddins gave the Argos the second set 25-16.

Set three was back-and-forth throughout until a 6-1 run for the Argos behind kills from Fiedler and Janjic put UP in front by seven. OUAZ would respond with three straight of their own, but kills from Fiedler and Eddins won the third set for UP 25-20.

In the fourth set both teams would trade runs early resulting in a tie at eight. UP would pull ahead with a 7-2 run courtesy of a pair of kills from Janjic and the Argos would cruise the rest of the way taking the set 25-18 and the match 3-1. Janjic and Fiedler led the team with 17 kills apiece and Thompson added 55 assists and 12 digs.
