GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- The University of Providence
men's soccer team fell 3-1 to Whitworth University Friday night.
The Argos (1-2) had the first chance of the game, but sophomore
Santi Jaramillo Ortiz's shot was saved by the goalkeeper.
A minute later sophomore
Ryan Baldwin had a chance but his show went just left of the goal.
The Pirates (1-0) would score the first goal of the game in the 16
th minute to put Whitworth ahead by one. Â
Whitworth was able to control the pace the last few minutes of the first half ending in a goal in the 44
th minute to go into the break leading 2-0.
The Pirates would add another goal in the 55
th minute, but sophomore
Liam Vaux would find
Tomeu Nebot Schmalfeld who beat the defender and buried his shot to shorted the Whitworth lead to two.
UP would continue to pressure down the stretch with shots by Schmalfeld, Vaux, and sophomore
Mekhi Barnes, but the Argos were not able to find the back of the net as they fell to Whitworth University 3-1.
The Argos will be back in action Friday, Sept. 20 when they host Walla Wall University. First touch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. (MST) in Great Falls, Mont. Â
