GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- The University of Providence men's soccer team
cruised to a 4-0 victory over Walla Walla Friday afternoon.
The Argos (2-2) scored the first goal of the game when freshman
Ole Heinsohn corralled the rebound and beat the goalkeeper for his first goal as an Argo.
UP would continue to pressure throughout the first half with shots from senior
Tomeu Nebot Schmalfeld and sophomore
Hugo Gil, but neither could capitalize as the Argos went into halftime leading 1-0.
The Argos were able to control the game in the second half, and with that onslaught of pressure, senior
Marcus John was able to find senior
Vincent Stoppel who found the back of the net to extend UP's lead out to two.
A few minutes later the Argos increased the lead to three when sophomore
José González's lead pass to
Geovanni Lugo was just enough as he was able to beat the defender for his first goal of the year.
With only a few minutes remaining UP continued to pressure resulting in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper for Schmalfeld who buried it to secure the 4-0 victory for UP.
Head coach
Will Hander on his team's performance stated, "The guys did well today with the windy conditions. We adjusted as well as we could, and I am proud of the way they battled today. It was a good start to conference play."
The Argos will be back in action Sunday, Sept. 22 when they host Rocky Mountain College. The first touch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. (MST) in Great Falls, Mont.
