Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Argos Fall on Day One at CSM Labor Day Classic

OMAHA, Neb. -- The University of Providence volleyball program fell to #2 Northwestern and #16 Indiana-Kokomo at the CSM Labor Day Classic on Friday.

In the first set against #2 Northwestern the Raiders scored the first three points but kills from senior Nina Janjic and junior Ryann Eddins tied the set at four. Both teams would go back-and-forth with no team gaining a lead by more than three. With the set tied at 25 the Raiders scored back-to-back points to take the first set 27-25.

The Argos scored the first point of the second set off a kill from Janjic but seven straight from the Raiders put Northwestern ahead by six. UP would slowly chip into the lead, but a late 4-0 run from the Raiders secured the second set for Northwestern 25-20.

In set three Northwestern jumped out to an 11-4 lead and did not look back taking the final set 25-17 and the match 3-0.

In the first set against #16 Indiana-Kokomo the Argos got out to a 10-5 lead, but four straight from the Cougars cut the lead to one. Each side would go back-and-forth until two straight from the Cougars gave Indiana-Kokomo set one 27-25.

The Cougars jumped out to an early lead in the second set, and despite a late run from UP, five straight points from Indiana-Kokomo secured the second set for the Cougars 25-20.

UP was able to take control in the third set when a pair of kills from sophomore Cabry Taylor and junior Ryann Eddins gave the Argos a 14-8 lead. The Argos would maintain that edge the rest of the way taking the third set 25-18.

In set four the Cougars scored seven of the first nine points to force a UP timeout. The Argos would respond with a 7-2 run to tie the set at 17, but would run out of gas falling in set four 25-22 and the match 3-1.

The Argos are back in action tomorrow for another pair of contests at the CSM Labor Day Classic. UP will face Grand View University at Noon (MST) and #6 Midland University at 4:00 p.m. (MST).
