HAVRE, Mont. -- The University of Providence volleyball program defeated Montana State University Northern 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
In the first set against the Skylights (6-8), MSU-Northern scored the first four points of the set, but a 5-1 run from the Argos (13-3) tied the set at five. Both sides would go back-and-forth the rest of the set but MSU-Northern scored three of the last four points to take the first 27-25.
The Argos bounced back in the second set scoring five straight points to open the set, and following a pair of points from the Skylights, a 5-0 run behind kills from sophomore
Cabry Taylor and
Sadie Giles put UP ahead 10-2. Despite a late run from the Skylights, a kill from junior setter
Bella Thompson secured the second set for UP 25-19.
The third set saw the Argos jump out to a 5-2 lead courtesy of kills from Giles and junior
Franny Martins. The Skylights would bring the set within one, but a 9-1 run from UP was too much for MSU-Northern to overcome as the Argos took the third set 25-17.
The fourth set was back-and-forth until kills from Martins and sophomore
Martyna Fiedler put UP ahead 11-6. A 7-0 run from the Skylights tied the match at 19 but a pair of kills from senior
Nina Janjic and Fiedler secured the fourth set 26-24 and the match 3-1. Janjic led the way for UP with 20 kills, Thompson had 49 assists and Giles added 29 digs.Â
The Argos are back in action Thursday, Oct. 3 when they host Rocky Mountain College. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Great Falls, Mont. Â Â Â Â Â
