GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball program fell to Montana Western 66-55 Thursday night.
The Argos (11-10) scored the first basket of the game off a jumper from senior Antoine Boyd Jr, but a 5-0 run from the Bulldogs (12-9) put Montana Western ahead by three.
Both teams traded baskets until a steal from the Bulldogs lead to a fastbreak layup giving Montana Western a 14-8 lead early in the first half.
The Bulldogs extended their lead to 10, but 10 straight behind a three from junior
Ryan Chavez and a dunk by senior
Nikolajs Atanasovs tied the game at 26.
Each side traded baskets but a dunk from the Bulldogs to end the half put Montana Western ahead 33-30 heading into the break.
The Argos opened the second half with a layup from senior
Jamil Bowles to bring the game within one, and following a basket from the Bulldogs, a three from senior
Mike Wright Jr. tied the game at 35.
Each side went back and forth over the next eight minutes until six in a row from the Bulldogs gave Montana Western a lead 50-42 with eight minutes to go in the half.
The Argos were able to cut the lead to seven following a three from senior
Dylan Hushaw, but Up was unable to close the gap as the Argos fell 66-55 to Montana Western.
The Argos will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 1 when they travel to Havre, Mont. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in the Armory Gymnasium.
