VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The University of Providence women's volleyball program defeated Valley City State 3-1 to stay perfect in Frontier Conference play.
In the first set both teams went back-and-forth until a 3-1 run from the Vikings (9-11) put Valley City ahead 15-11. The Argos (22-1) slowly cut into the lead bringing the set with two behind kills from senior
Bella Green and junior
Martyna Fiedler, but the Vikings answered scoring five of the last seven to take the first 25-21.
The Argos responded to begin the second set getting out to an early 6-1 lead off kills from junior
Cabry Taylor and Green. UP did not stop there with an 11-6 run behind kills from Martins and Taylor to stretch their lead to 17-7. Despite a late flurry from the Vikings, UP cruised the rest of the set with kills from seniors
Sadie Giles and
Kiyana Faupula to secure the second 25-15.
In the third set neither side could grab a lead by more than three until four straight from the Argos off a kill from Giles put UP in front 17-11. UP maintained that edge the rest of the set with kills by Martins and Fiedler taking the third for the Argos 25-17.
The fourth set was back and forth early until a 6-2 run from UP behind kills from Fiedler and Giles gave the Argos a 10-6 edge. UP slowly extended their lead out to seven, and despite a pair of points from the Vikings the Argos scored four of the final points of the set with kills from Green and Fiedler securing the fourth 25-17, and the match 3-1. Fiedler and Green led the way for the Argos with 15 and 12 kills, respectively. Senior
Bella Thompson totaled 46 assists and juniors
Kyra Saiers had a team high 21 digs. With seven kills tonight, Giles became the second player in program history to record 1000 career kills and 1000 career digs.Â

The Argos will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 18 when they head to Mayville, N.D. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. (MST) versus Mayville State. Â Â Â
