GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- The University of Providence men's soccer
program fell to Rocky Mountain College 2-0 Saturday afternoon.
The Battlin' Bears (4-1-6) had the first opportunity of the game with three corner kicks over the first six minutes but were only able to get one shot off from freshman David Russell that went wide of the goal.
Rocky Mountain College continued to pressure with shots from Ryan Daniel and Russel, and in the 44
th minute the Battlin' Bears' eighth corner kick of the half connected when Rory O'Donnell found Russell who chipped it past the Argos (3-9-2) goalkeeper to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Both teams went back-and-forth throughout the second half with the Argos getting a pair of shots on frame from senior
Stevie Goode and junior
Jose Gonzalez, but it was the Battlin' Bears who connected in the 84
th minute when freshman Fynn Sweeting found sophomore Luke Tooze to extend the Battlin' Bear lead to two.
The Rocky Mountain College defense stood strong down the stretch, not allowing a shot on frame over the final six minutes as the Argos fell in the home finale 2-0.
The Argos will be back in action Friday, Oct. 24 when they head to La Grande, Ore. The first touch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (MST) versus Eastern Oregon. Â Â Â Â
