BUTTE, Mont. – The University of Providence women's volleyball program picked up their seventh straight sweep and 16
th straight win with a victory over Montana Tech Friday night.
The first set was back-and-forth early with neither team gaining a lead by more than three until an 8-1 run from the Argos (17-1) behind three kills from senior
Bella Green gave the Argos a 19-11 edge. UP cruised the rest of the set with a kill from senior
Bella Thompson securing the first 25-15.
In the second set the Argos got out to an early 8-2 lead off kills from juniors
Martyna Fiedler and
Cabry Taylor, but the Orediggers (10-6) slowly crept back into the game tying the set at 20. Each side traded points with ties at 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 until kills from Fiedler and Thompson took the second set for UP 29-27.
In the third set neither side could grab a lead by more than two until a 7-1 run from the Argos behind a pair of kills from Green put UP ahead 18-13. Despite a late flurry from the Orediggers bringing the set within two, kills from Fiedler and Taylor secured the third set for UP 25-20, and the match 3-0.
Green and Fiedler led the way for the Argos with 15 and 12 kills, respectively. Senior
Bella Thompson tallied 38 assists, and senior
Sadie Giles had a team high 20 digs.
The Argos will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 4 when they head to Dillon, Mont. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. versus Montana Western. Â
