DILLON, Mont. – The University of Providence women's volleyball program defeated Montana Western 3-1 to extend their win streak to 17 games Saturday afternoon.
In the first set the Bulldogs (8-10) got out to an early 6-3 lead but the Argos (18-1) slowly cut into the Montana Western advantage behind kills from seniors
Sadie Giles and
Bella Green to tie the set at 12. Following a pair of runs from both teams, the set saw ties at 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, and 29 before three straight from Montana Western gave the Bulldogs the first set 31-29. Â
The Argos responded to start the second set getting out to a 7-3 lead off kills from junior
Martyna Fiedler and Giles. UP continued their momentum with an 8-3 run off a pair of kills from junior
Cabry Taylor to put the Argos ahead 17-8. The Argos cruised the rest of the set with a kill from Fiedler securing the second for UP 25-15.
The third set was back-and-forth early with neither team gaining a lead by more than three until a 9-2 run from the Argos behind a kill from Green and an ace from sophomore
Isabelle Cahall put UP in front 13-7. The Bulldogs would bring the set within four, but the Argos scored the final five points of the set with a pair of kills from Fiedler taking the third for UP 25-16.
UP continued to roll into the fourth set getting out to a 10-3 lead behind an ace from junior
Ellie Carlson and kills from Fiedler and Giles. The Bulldogs would answer bringing the set within two, but the Argos dominated the rest of the set scoring six of the last eight with a kill from senior
Ryann Eddins securing the fourth 25-16, and the match 3-1.
Three Argos reached double-digit kills in Fiedler with 14, Green with 13, and Giles with 11. Senior
Bella Thompson totaled 50 assists, and junior
Kyra Saiers added a team high 22 digs. Â
The Argos will be back in action Friday, Oct. 8 when they host MSU-Northern. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Great Falls, Mont. Â Â
