GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's basketball program defeated Bushnell University 80-51 Saturday night.
The Beacons (0-1) scored the first points of the game off a three-pointer, but an and-one from senior McKenna Reggear on the other end tied it at three.
Bushnell took an 8-3 lead but the Argos (2-0) answered outscoring the Beacons 20-3 the rest of the quarter behind a pair of layups from Dial and two threes from senior Camryn Cartwright to take a 23-11 lead into the break.
Both teams went back-and-forth throughout the second quarter with a layup and a pair of free throws from senior Ainsley Thurber giving the Argos a 42-27 edge at halftime.
The Argos began the second half with a 12-0 run off a pair of layups from Thurber, and UP maintained that edge the rest of the third quarter taking a 61-36 lead into the fourth.
Bushnell cut into the lead to begin the fourth quarter but the Argos never let it get below 20 as UP cruised the rest of the way with an 80-51 victory over the Beacons.
Thurber led the way for the Argos with 22 points and 11 rebounds, and junior Eliannah Ramirez and Dial added 13 points apiece.
The Argos will be back in action Saturday, Nov. 8 when they host Wayland Baptist University. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. in Great Falls, Mont.
