BELLEVUE, Neb. – The University of Providence women's volleyball program fell to #7 Bellevue in five-sets Saturday afternoon.
The first set was back-and-forth until a 4-1 run from the Bruins (22-3) put Bellevue ahead 9-5. The Argos (26-2) answered with six straight of their own to tie the match at 14 behind kills from seniors
Bella Green and
Kiyana Faupula. UP continued their momentum taking a 22-20 lead, but the Bruins scored four of the last five points of the set to take the first 25-23.
The Bruins got out to an early 9-5 lead to start the second set but a 6-1 run from the Argos off kills from junior
Cabry Taylor and senior
Ryann Eddins brought the set within one. Following a few points from the Bruins, UP ended the set on a 9-2 run with kills from seniors
Sadie Giles and
Franny Martins securing the second 25-21.
The Argos scored the first four points of the third, but the Bruins quickly answered tying the set at six. Both teams traded points but a 7-1 run from the Bruins gave Bellevue a 16-12 edge. UP did not go away taking an 18-17 lead behind kills from Eddins and Giles, and following points from both teams, the Argos scored four of the last five points of the set with a block by Martins taking the third for UP 25-23.
Each side went back and forth to begin the fourth set culminating with a tie at 17. The Bruins took control down the stretch, finishing the set on an 8-2 run to take the fourth 25-19.
In the deciding set the Bruins took an early 4-1 lead but the Argos answered with a pair of kills from junior
Martyna Fiedler to bring the fifth within one. Both teams would go on runs bringing the score to 13-12, but the Bruins scored the final two points of the set as the Argos fell 15-12 in the fifth set and 3-2 in the match.
Green and Giles added 12 kills apiece; senior
Bella Thompson totaled 48 assists, and Giles had a team high 29 digs while junior
Kyra Saiers added 21. Â
The Argos will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 7 when they host Montana Western. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Great Falls, Mont. Â Â Â Â Â
