NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The University of Providence women's wrestling program placed second as a team at the North Central Invitational on Sunday.
The Argos had three athletes reach the placement matches in senior
Erin Hikiji, junior
Paige Morales, and freshman
Elise Twait.
Hikiij went 4-0 on Sunday defeating Lillian Zapata 10-0, Alexis Winecke 10-0, NCAA #8 Mia Zuniga 10-0 in the semifinals, and defeated Iowa commit Madison Niewenhuis 10-0 in the championship match. After dominating the field on Sunday, Hikiji was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament for the third consecutive year.
Twait finished the North Central Invitational 3-1 defeating Selena Sifuentes Shaffer 10-0, pinned Clarissa Agostini in 2:33, defeated Riley Aamold 12-1, but fell to Olivia Davis in the championship match.
Morales went 4-2 on Sunday, pinning Ellana Parama in 5:45, defeated Katelyn Bell 10-0, #7 Avy Perez 4-0, and NCAA #7 Teegan Sibble 12-2 in the fifth-place match.
Freshman
Joely Slyter and junior
Alyssa Randles also picked up ranked wins on Sunday with Slyter defeating NCAA #6 Isabella Morales 4-2, and Randles defeated #17 Tatiana Paragas 10-0.
The Argos will be back in action on Jan. 9-10 when they head to Cedar Falls, Iowa, for the NWCA National Duals.
