Final Results from the Hoops in Hawaii Classic

GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- The University of Providence women's basketball team fell to #10 Dakota Wesleyan and #9 Concordia University (Neb.) at the Hoops in Hawaii Classic.

In game one, the Tigers (8-4) scored the first basket of the game but a layup on the other end from senior McKenna Reggear tied the game at two.

Each side would trade baskets the rest of the quarter but a layup from junior Eliannah Ramirez gave the Argos (8-4) a 12-11 lead heading into the break.

Both teams went back-and-forth to begin the second quarter until a 9-0 run from the Tigers put Dakota Wesleyan ahead 27-17.

The Argos cut the lead to eight with a free throw from Sofia Mokofisi but a layup from Dakota Wesleyan with 10 seconds left kept the Tigers ahead 31-19 at halftime.

Dakota Wesleyan slowly extended their lead, and despite baskets from junior Brooke Dial and Mokofisi to cut the advantage to 13, the Argos could not complete the comeback falling to #10 Dakota Wesleyan 58-40.

Junior Brooke Dial led the way for the Argos with 14 points and nine rebounds and senior Sofia Mokofisi added 11 points and seven rebounds.

In game two versus #9 Concordia University (Neb.) the Bulldogs (11-3) scored the first six points of the game but a layup from junior Eliannah Ramirez on the other end brought the Argos (8-5) within four.

The Bulldogs pushed the lead out to seven but the Argos outscored Concordia 14-6 over the final four minutes behind three-pointers from freshman Madi Reibel and senior Camryn Cartwright to give UP a 16-15 lead heading into the break.

Each side traded baskets to begin the second quarter with ties at 20 and 22 until the Argos ended the half on an 11-0 run behind threes from seniors Camryn Cartwright and McKenna Reggear to take a 35-26 lead into halftime.

The Bulldogs started the half on a 12-3 run to take a 38-37 lead, and following a layup from Dial, an and one from Concordia put the Bulldogs ahead 44-41 heading into the fourth.

The Bulldogs pushed the lead out to 17 to begin the fourth, and despite a late jumper from Reggear, UP fell to #9 Concordia 63-48.

Junior Brooke Dial led the way for the Argos with 11 points and seven rebounds and senior Camryn Cartwright added nine points.

The Argos will be back in action Friday, Jan. 2 when they head to Mayville, N.D. Tip-off is scheduled from 4:00 pm. (MST) versus Mayville State.
